Almost entirely by coincidence a co-worker mentioned a 'frisky' multi-player game for the WII gaming console this morning. A brief google search pointed me to the attached youtube video.
To quote an article from Toms Guide website:
"It's a "sexy party game" called We Dare, and from the looks of the trailer, it involves some pretty intimate interactions with both the Wii remote and your fellow players. Have you ever imagined a spanking game? Well, now you don't have to."

Repressive Hypothesis and Foucault...
Roach writes in the 'Foreplay' section of Bonk that "Sex is one of those rare topics wherein the desire for others to keep the nitty-gritty of their experiences private is stronger than the wish to keep mum on one's own nitty-gritty" (17)--she wonders periodically as to why this is. Of course many of us share this same sort of desire--to keep our own sexual proclivities and exploits somehow clandestine and shrouded in mystery. But as I read the book, I couldn't help but think NO SHIT! and Foucault!!! at the same time...
For those who don't know Foucault (and you should) I've included a link to a brief history/explanation of one of his main ideas; the Repressive Hypothesis (here for your reading pleasure; brought to you by Purdue University) which I think is highly relevant to our discussion of Bonk.
I have a feeling we'll be reading some part of History of Sexuality by Michel Foucault this semester, and I don't want to step on any toes, but I thought it would be an interesting and informative read.

The Future of Sex
While reading Bonk I have gotten a real interesting perspective of the evolution of sex, and its various components. I recently ran into this video from the History Channel's Modern Marvels series regarding the future of sex. One interesting invention they are working on is holographic porn. The episode also hints at the various possible forthcomings of technological sex.
What is the Point of the Female Orgasm?
The fourth chapter of Bonk, "The Upsuck Chronicles" addresses the question of whether or not the female orgasm has anything to do with fertility. A couple of weeks ago, I actually read an article from Popsci that addresses the question of whether or not the female orgasm actually has some sort of purpose in regards to fertility or if it's simply "an evolutionary accident". The article even refers to Kim Wallen, who is one of the scientists that Roach interviews in her book.
Here's a link to the article:

What Is It... Some Kind of a Weapon?
This clip is from an episode of the popular show The L Word that follows a group of lesbian/bisexual/queer women in Los Angeles. This clip touches on queer sexuality and shows us how many in the United States are still very uncomfortable with open discussions about sexuality especially when they include our own experiences and practices. I also wanted to bring into our discussions the idea that there are many communities in which the connection between technology and sexuality is assumed rather than questioned.
I hope you all find this clip as amusing as I did. I think humor is inevitable when you mix sexual technologies and airport security.
Futurama: Don't Date Robots!
I was watching Futurama the other day, and this episode from Season 3 called, "I Dated a Robot," shows how the ability to download celebrities into a robot form for folks to date is available in the future. They show this propaganda reel in the vein of "Reefer Madness" to try to dissuade Fry from dating Lucy Liu robot. It prompts discussion to me about themes of sexual fantasy, ownership (to what extent is a downloaded sexual fantasy robot free?), personhood of the mechanical, and ethical considerations of techno-rape. (Is the sexual relationship with a downloaded memory into a physical form considered rape or sexual assault?)

Don't leave this one out...
All our thoughts and discussions are going to Ross, Roach, Kinsey, Masters, etc., but what about Mr. Garrison???

Of Cherry, Cherries, and More...

I have been thinking about what I should bring for the show and tell portion on Monday. I have decided to bring a cherry pie. First we have the Warrant song, with lyrics "She's my cherry pie
cool drink of water
such a sweet surprise
taste so good make a grown man cry, sweet cherry pie!" Then we have the American Pie film series. We all remember the scene in which the lead character is caught masturbating with a pie after he was told that third base felt like a warm apple pie. Lastly, the symbol of the double cherries. Sometimes this can be seen as a lower back tattoo, or perhaps a low hip rider tattoo. I am not sure what this image represents, I know "popping the cherry" means taking a girls virginity but I think there are other references too.
